Jewelry with meaning

When I work with the concept of "Jewellery with meaning," it energizes me daily to think that the jewellery I design can potentially last forever and hold deep significance in other people's lives. When you buy a piece of jewellery from me, it's an investment, yes, in recycled gold and gemstones, but also in yourself or the person you're giving the jewellery to, and in the belief that this piece can gain a meaning that endures for many years.

What is "jewellery with meaning"?

A piece of jewellery with meaning can be many things and can evoke many emotions. For example, a piece of jewellery can represent a special event, such as a birthday, graduation, confirmation, becoming a parent, getting married or engaged, etc. A piece of jewellery with meaning can also be a gift to yourself – for instance, with a special gemstone that represents your birth month, or because you were drawn to a particular gemstone or a specific design. A ring can also hold meaning if you were involved in its design and the creation process itself. Read more about the unique design process here.

Why is it important to care about this?

I believe it's important to surround yourself with jewellery that has meaning, both because it adds a special touch to your wardrobe and because you carry a deeper significance with you. This could be, for example, an engagement ring, or a ring that symbolizes your children. These pieces of jewellery contain a declaration of love, which you are reminded of every time you look at them. It can also be a gift to yourself, where you acknowledge yourself and sweeten everyday life with gold and diamonds. In general, jewellery can hold many wonderful emotional experiences, and perhaps that's why jewellery makes a fantastic gift for someone you care about.

When does a piece of jewellery acquire meaning?

It's difficult to give a precise answer as to when a piece of jewellery acquires meaning, and there's only one person who can answer that: the person who receives or wears the jewellery. A piece of jewellery can hold meaning from the day you receive or order it, but it can also gain significance years later because you've developed a relationship with it. I would argue that a piece of jewellery acquires meaning as soon as the wearer believes it has meaning. It's not the price that's decisive, but rather some emotional factors at play.

How do I give a piece of jewellery with meaning?

It's not 100% guaranteed to succeed, because how can you ensure that the jewellery will be worn and used?

To increase the chance, my advice is to start by getting to know the person well, listening to their wishes and needs, and observing them. How do they use their jewellery in everyday life? What kind of clothes do they wear? What jewellery do they currently have? - not that it has to be the same as the new jewellery, but if they don't wear any jewellery now, then perhaps you shouldn't go and buy them the biggest ring. It might feel too overwhelming to wear, and then the otherwise good intention ends up in a drawer. I think it's important that the jewellery you buy is something the recipient will wear, and thereby it will gain meaning in one way or another. So, it's important to look at the person and then try to ensure that the jewellery reflects them and their wishes. The giver must also be a big part of the decision-making process, but above all, the jewellery must reflect the person it is given to.

What considerations are there if you are buying a piece of jewellery for yourself?

There can be many questions you can ask yourself, just as when you buy jewellery for others. In addition, you can think about: How do I want to wear it? What do I want it to represent? Are there any experiences or personal goals that I would like to incorporate?
