Sensory Rings: designing organic wedding rings

I was fortunate enough to be interviewed for Berlingske FRI last week under the headline "Invite wild nature to the wedding." This inspired me to share a little more about my thoughts on creating organic jewelry that goes beyond the conventional, especially within wedding rings.

When I design jewelry for my collection and embark on my design process, I always start with long walks, preferably at my summer house on Falster. Here, I can surrender to nature and immerse myself in the smallest details, or simply enjoy the tranquility of a walk.

"I grew up in the countryside, and nature is a part of me. It has become my way of expressing myself artistically. Today, I primarily draw my inspiration from my walks on the beach and in the bird sanctuary near my summer house on Falster. These walks can take a considerable amount of time, as I can truly get lost and engrossed in the smallest details. It might be the way tree roots entwine, a honeysuckle stem winds, or perhaps a fluttering leaf," I recounted in the interview.

I also shared how I capture these sensory impressions with my camera and translate them into lines and shapes on a sketchpad. It's a process that demands patience and an openness to nature's fleeting beauty. To capture the light, the wind, and the magic of nature and convey this aesthetic in the form of organic jewelry is what I desire most.

"I enjoy capturing the light playing on the horizon, a line in the sand, the sound of the wind, or a beautiful reflection on the water's surface. It is this aesthetic and magical connection with nature that I want to pass on. I store all sensory impressions, allowing thoughts and creativity to flow freely so I can translate them into jewelry," I further explained.

When designing organic wedding rings, I take my lines and shapes and first model them in hard wax, a process that is creative and one I truly enjoy. The process requires both precision and dedication. The wax undergoes a transformation, with careful processing, from a rough form to the finest and softest surfaces and transitions. Then, the wax ring is cast in recycled gold and becomes an organic wedding ring, varying from strictly classic to flowing, nature-inspired forms.

"I let nature's organic forms guide me because I really like that there is flow and movement in the finished jewelry – exactly as there is in the sea, the wind, the trees. It is important to me that my jewelry is three-dimensional, so you can continue to discover new, surprising angles, just as if you let your hands glide over the bark of a tree or observe the waves," I shared my thoughts on the design process.

In addition to my passion for design and shaping, I want to offer my customers a unique buying experience where we can explore your wishes and needs together.

I look forward to welcoming you for a non-binding meeting in my showroom and helping you find the perfect wedding rings.

Best regards, Michell
