Sådan finder du den rigtige ringstørrelse til forlovelsesringen

How to find the right ring size for an engagement ring

Proposing is one of life's greatest moments – and many who visit my workshop tell me they're nervous about whether the ring will fit. That's completely normal! Fortunately, there are several good ways to find the right ring size without your partner noticing.

And don't worry: if the ring doesn't fit perfectly the first time, I will, of course, adjust it afterwards. Adjustment is always included in the price.

1. Secretly borrow a ring

A classic: Find a ring your partner already wears – preferably on the ring finger where the engagement ring will sit. Bring it to me in Valby (or to another jeweler), and we can measure it precisely with professional tools.

If you can't bring it with you, you can measure the internal diameter with a ruler or caliper. This is where tiny millimeters make a difference – but remember, the ring can always be adjusted afterward.

2. Pay attention to which finger the ring is worn on

Many people have rings they wear on different fingers. It can be helpful to observe which rings are worn where, and whether they fit on the right or left hand. This gives a clue as to how close we are to the correct size.

3. Ask a friend for advice

Often, a good friend knows the answer – or perhaps has even tried their own ring on your partner's finger. This can be a simple way to get close to the correct size without having to sneak around in the jewelry box.

4. Use a temporary solution

If you are unsure about the size, you can borrow one of my display rings from the collection for the proposal itself. After the proposal, you can both visit my showroom in Valby, where we will measure your partner's finger and adjust the ring or create your very own unique engagement ring in 14k recycled gold.

5. Remember: the ring can always be adjusted

I often find that nervousness about ring size is a big concern. But the truth is, the right engagement ring is about the love behind it – not the millimeters.

As I always say: "You buy a ring that should fit – so adjustment is, of course, included in the price."

This means you can confidently choose the ring that feels right, even if you're unsure about the size.

Practical info:

Ring sizes can change over time (e.g., during pregnancy or temperature changes).

It's best to find a size that is as close as possible from the start – but adjustment is quite common.

At Liljefelt Jewellery, all engagement rings are handmade in Denmark from 14k or 18k recycled gold, and you can always have them adjusted.
