There are many things you need to consider when choosing your future wedding rings, which can sometimes seem overwhelming. That's why I've gathered my advice and the considerations I believe you should make.
Price
Before you make a choice, you should keep in mind that the rings are meant to be worn for the rest of your lives. Therefore, I would always recommend that you choose your wedding rings in recycled gold. Gold is a precious metal that is durable and harder than, for example, sterling silver, meaning gold is an excellent choice for wedding rings. Due to gold's qualities, it is a costly material, which is also reflected in the price of gold rings.
Choose as if it's an investment
When you choose your future wedding rings, you should think of them as an investment. Both an investment in a material like recycled gold that does not perish but is durable and has been reused through generations. But also an investment in each other and your big day, which you commemorate every day by wearing the rings. Therefore, I recommend that you allocate money in your wedding budget for wedding rings, as it can be one of the larger expenses.
What is most important about the design?
The most important thing about the design is that it suits you, which can be very individual. Some prefer a classic design, while others prefer something more organic. You each need to find out where you stand on this spectrum (see diagram below). In terms of functionality, you should consider that you need to be able to wear your wedding rings both at work and during your free time. It would therefore be a good idea to choose a design where the rings feel comfortable to wear and where the design is timeless.
Togetherness
A wedding ring is a symbol of love, your love for each other, so for most, wedding rings should radiate togetherness. Togetherness can be expressed through, for example, design, a shared engraving, the color of the gold, or an emotional value you have jointly given the rings. Personally, I believe that each of you should choose the wedding ring, classic or organic, that you desire, and that togetherness is created the moment you say yes to each other.
Comfortable to wear
You will wear your wedding rings for the rest of your lives, so it's important that they are comfortable to wear. So try them on and feel them. What is comfortable is individual; some like wide rings, others find them pinching.
Personally, I care that my jewelry has rounded inner edges, so they are comfortable to wear.
