At Liljefelt Jewellery, I love the idea that gold never loses its value – it can be melted down and given new life again and again. When you choose a wedding ring, engagement ring, or another unique piece of jewellery from Liljefelt Jewellery, you don't just get a beautiful design, but also a story that continues.
How is recycled gold turned into wedding rings and engagement rings?
Liljefelt Jewellery's pieces are designed and shaped in wax, after which they are cast in recycled gold. This happens in collaboration with Holm Støbeteknik, a Danish family-owned foundry with over 25 years of experience. The foundry uses gold collected from industry and old jewellery, which has been cleaned and refined before being melted down into new wedding rings, engagement rings, and other jewellery.
High quality and long durability
Recycled gold has precisely the same properties as new gold – it loses neither its quality nor its durability. In fact, your wedding ring or engagement ring can last for generations and later be melted down again if it needs new life. All jewellery is stamped with my name stamp (LIL) and with the correct fineness 585 (14 karat) or 750 (18 karat), so you know exactly what you are getting.
Can I have my wedding ring cast in my own gold?
Many customers ask if they can have a wedding ring or engagement ring made from their own gold. This is an option, but there are a few things to be aware of. When I cast jewellery, the process requires more gold than the finished piece weighs, which means a certain loss of material. Furthermore, I cannot guarantee the quality of your own gold, as it is not refined in the same way as the gold I usually work with. Therefore, I often recommend selling the old gold and using the amount to purchase a new wedding ring or engagement ring made from purified, recycled gold.
Recycling gemstones
If you have old jewellery with gemstones, I can often reuse them in a new design. I carefully remove the stones, clean them, and set them in the new wedding ring or engagement ring. This way, you can preserve a special meaning and history in your new piece of jewellery.
When you choose a wedding ring, engagement ring, or another unique piece of jewellery from Liljefelt Jewellery, you get not only a timeless design but also a part of a circular process where materials get new life.
