How to clean gold jewellery at home
Gold jewellery can usually be cleaned quite simply.
You will need:
- a bowl of warm water
- a little mild soap
- a soft toothbrush
- a jewellery cloth
Place the jewellery in the water for about 15 minutes, so that dirt and grease loosen. Then you can carefully brush the jewellery – especially around settings and small details – with the toothbrush. Finally, rinse the jewellery in clean water and dry it with a soft cloth.
This method works well for many types of jewellery, including engagement rings and wedding rings made of gold.
Diamonds regain their sparkle
Diamonds easily collect small residues of soap and cream, which can dull their shine.
When the ring is cleaned, light can again move freely through the stone – and the diamond regains its clear play of light.
This applies especially to diamond rings that are worn daily.
Silver jewellery requires a little extra attention
Silver can oxidise over time and become darker on the surface.
Often, a jewellery cloth for silver can remove the slight discolouration and restore the shine to the jewellery.
If a silver piece of jewellery is very dark, it may be a good idea to have it professionally cleaned.
